i have been watching the progressive story about Chris Brown and the assault of Rihanna, his girlfriend. i read somewhere that he grew up watching his father beat on his mother. OK i get it. domestic violence is amuck in our world today. there is so much hype now about Rihanna going back to him... and i just want to voice my opinion that i believe if a man hits a woman once, he will hit her again. and the next time, she may not survive it. i have lost all respect for the two, not that i had much initially, i do not enjoy that kind of music. however, these two are role models for our teenagers and i am worried about the message they might be giving our youth, that it may actually be "cool" to hit your girlfriend, if you are a guy, and that it's "acceptable" and "OK" to take the guy back, if you are a woman. NO. NO IT'S NOT. none of it is acceptable. and i don't care how much he may confess his love for Rihanna, its not LOVE. as Oprah says, "love does not hurt."
what i would like to see happen, is Chris Brown admitting he made a huge mistake. then, i would like to see him become a national speaker for violence against women. i would like him to admit he grew up seeing his dad do this to his mom, and to admit he KNOWS its wrong. i would like him then to enter abuser therapy, do whatever it takes to get through his abusive cycles... and set an example for other young men who hit... although the latest news on him is about him partying in a bar with some friends right after his hearing. it does not appear he is considering anyone else at the moment, just himself.
i would like to see Rihanna enter violence against women program and show other vulnerable women/girls out there, how one can break the cycle of allowing some one to abuse you. both of these young entertainers have found themselves in a position that may change the future, either for the good or for the bad. the choice is theirs. this could be such an important teaching opportunity for our youth, who idolize people like them. all i can do is hope and pray they do the right thing. as parents, WE can use this as a teaching opportunity with our kids, by discussing abuse issues and scenarios with them. we can build up their self esteem so they do not accept the victim role. and to those who might say "it takes two... she probably promoted it" you are more stupid than a box of rocks, believing that crap. get a grip. get your shit together. read and inform yourself, you stupid piece of shit excuse for a person, you. i don't care if she did start the hitting first, you NEVER hit a girl. NEVER. no matter what. if your mama didn't teach you that, she must be stupid, too.

hey girl..long time no comment :) this Chris Brown/Rihanna thing is just sickening. It's our kid's generation Ike and Tina Turner. I wish Tina would call up Rihanna and say 'wake up girl, or he'll put you to sleep for good!' Chris needs to be in jail and Rihanna needs to go back to her family and get well..inside as well as outside.

DITTO!!!
What is good about this though? All of my girls and their friends think he is a jerk and that SHE is a jerk for going back...so much for the role models????
I grew up with domestic violence in the home...it is not fun. And it did not make me beat my kids....
I just kid that I will, but I don't.
Really. :)

Just when I was starting to get into his music.

Not any more.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Amen to that, mama! Loud and clear, 100% on the money.

Sadly, hindsight is 20/20 and even if we know better, most of the time the people IN the situation are just plain blind.

at the school where i work right now, we have boys hitting girls all the time! and girls too hitting boys. these are 6-12th graders! where do they see it? home, on tv, in the media, like their idols, you all are talking about. i dont know how many times i've had to talk to them about it. we just dont go around hitting, either one...girls or boys. even in jest. it just causes problems, and inevitably someone ALWAYS gets hurt. so...DON'T HIT, even playing around. it doesn't look good, it doesn't feel good, and it is leads to more later. lets promote love and not violence. way to go toone, i'm with you, preach it sister, you go girl, sing it baby, and so on, you got that right!! People have asked me if "maybe she deserved it"... um, excuse me, nobody "deserves" it. If she was being obnoxious, you pull off the road and tell her to get out. You don't hit a woman 'til her mouth fills with blood. He's scum, I hope she sees him for what he is, I hope he gets the maximum sentence, and I hope his prison is filled with Rihanna fans who'll do the same to him.

Late as usual, but wanted to agree whole heartedly with this. I was very upset that she went back to him and what kind of a message that would send. I hope he suffers cosequences from society but people are quick to forgive celebrities which is a shame.
