“SOMA, Japan – Japan's nuclear crisis deepened dramatically Tuesday. As safety officials sought desperately to avert catastrophe, the government said radioactive material leaking from reactors was enough to "impact human health" and the risk of more leaks was "very high." Dangerous levels of radiation leaking from a crippled nuclear plant forced Japan to order 140,000 people to seal themselves indoors Tuesday after an explosion and a fire dramatically escalated the 4-day-old crisis spawned by a deadly tsunami. Now we are talking about levels that can damage human health. These are readings taken near the area where we believe the releases are happening. Please do not go outside. Please stay indoors. Please close windows and make your homes airtight. Don't turn on ventilators. Please hang your laundry indoors, he said. These are figures that potentially affect health, there is no mistake about that.”

…so a few days ago, the word from officials in Japan was that the little bit of radiation leaking was NOT enough to harm the health of humans.. [see last post] yet tonight, after 3 nuclear reactors have begun to melt down with a fourth one on fire as I write this, why is my stomach tight inside, my nerves in a knot, and intestinal distress on the horizon?

…and exactly where are all the thousands of displaced people supposed to go to stay indoors and make their homes air tight… when they have no homes to go home to and can’t possibly turn off their ventilators when there is no electricity? that advice makes no sense to me. they need to get the hell out of there!

…in my opinion this is scary shit what’s happening on the other side of the planet. some of us can remain in denial in the safety of our lil cocoons and dismiss that it will ever affect us here… [to be honest for the most part that’s what I usually do], but the whole hot mess is progressing to a point of danger that I have to at least think about what my family and I would do, should radiation reach my lil corner of the world. it’s like there is nowhere to run and no place to hide from something like this.

…I suppose if one had enough moolah, one could have an underground safety shelter built, filled with supplies to last a long time and then hope and pray you survive it.

…but in my current financial sit-chi-a-shun, the only place I can hide is in the back of my closet behind  shoes and under some clothes. somehow, that doesn’t scream SAFETY to me.

…god bless the people in the actual affected areas in Japan, I can’t even begin to fathom what is going through their minds, as they endure the environmental hell they are left to survive in, and not knowing who in their family is dead or alive. those dear people are enduring torture in every possible way. they seem almost stoically accepting of what ever will happen next.

…I did make one observation though in all of this… when Katrina hit New Orleans and the weather let up a bit, there were robberies and crimes, people were panically looting everything in sight, carrying TV’s, stereos, etc. through waist high current ridden snake filled waters, even though they had no homes to return to with their “new” stolen items.

…then I look at the Japanese people and see no panic, no looting, no fighting or climbing over your neighbor to selfishly take more supplies than allotted per family. they stand calmly with bewilderment on their faces and cry quietly for lost loved ones and the devastation of it all, while orderly standing patiently in lines for hours to get water.

…of course they are two different cultures, but when tragedy strikes and all is said and done, we are all just people living on this planet and I find it sinful to resort to looting when everyone is in the same boat and everyone has lost everything.

Goes to show what a culture-f*ck north america is made of, eh... (looting happens here at the slightest opportunity).

Those poor japanese :(

yes, those people of that culture are the epitome of clas, integrity, and honor. even in the face of loss, they know not how to create havoc. we, on the other hand, are just the opposite. and very bad examples. i am ashamed. God bless them at this time, even though majority are buddist and shinto and don't believe in our God. maybe this will be a turning point in their faith? God only knows. we can pray....
