According to the

uRbAn dictiOnArY

roommate chicken means;

Photobucket

"The condition where a group of people sharing a living space each avoid doing a household chore for an extended period because each believes it's someone else's responsibility. The idea is that eventually the situation will reach a critical mass where the guilty party will cave in and do the chore. In practice, the situation can escalate to extreme levels".

"I'm not going to do the dishes. It's your turn."

"Yeah, but 90% of them are from the dinner you made for your girlfriend. I'm not cleaning up your mess."

"I'm not playing roommate chicken with you on this. Clean it up!"

"I'll die before I clean your mess."

"Fuck you!"

"Fuck you!"

i tend to have some urban chicken going around our house on some days, [without the cuss words, though]. kids... ya can't eat a whole one...

never heard of the chicken theory before, but it truly is interesting. Actually, I let a lot of this go already and realize that if we were to compare, I'm doing 90%, he's doing 10%. This should frustrate me, but it doesn't. He's under a lot of stress at work and is a good provider. So I just pick up the slack so to speak and take care of what needs to be done and leave it at that (and his 10% includes making dinner which is always a good thing indeed :)

i've also never heard of the roommate chicken thing before, most generally, i'll go all passive aggressive about it while i'm cleaning up whatever mess is there (that i didn't make) just because i can't stand living in mess or clutter, and then i'll leave notes or make just-out-of-earshot comments about how someday I'm gonna get a maid to clean up messes, and then say "oh wait i AM the maid!!" and then keep cleaning...lol

a little passive aggressive never hurt anyone, in my opinion...

I love the Urban Dictionary ... always good for a laugh. :)

My kids play a version of "roommate chicken" with chores... ESPECIALLY with feeding our 2 two dogs.... drives me nuts!
